چکیده

• The action of sympathetic and parasynipathetic nerves on the pulmonary vessels is well known. However, until recently, it was thought that the circulation of blood in the lungs was achieved passively. Anatomical and pathological studies have shown that in cases of pulmonary hypertension there is a marked hypertrophy of the muscular coat of the pulmonary artery, which suggests an active vasoconstriction.-" Moreover, pressoreceptor-like structures were recently described in the pulmonary arteries, and Coleridge recorded impulses from some vagal fibers when the large branches of the pulmonary artery were distended. The present work was carried out in order to study the possibility of a pulmo-pnlmonary baroreceptor reflex mechanism in the regulation of the pulmonary circulation.

Reflex responses from the main pulmonary artery and bifurcation in anaesthetised dogs.

This study was undertaken to determine the reflex cardiovascular and respiratory responses to discrete stimulation of pulmonary arterial baroreceptors using a preparation in which secondary modulation of responses from other reflexes was prevented. Dogs were anaesthetised with -chloralose, artificially ventilated, the chests widely opened and a cardiopulmonary bypass established. The main pulmo...

THE EFFECTS OF CAPTOPRIL ON PULMONARY AND SYS TEMIC ARTERIAL PRESSURES IN HIGHALTITUDE PULMONARY HYPERTENSION

The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effect of captopril on both systemic (P.a) and pulmonary arterial pressures (PPA) in patients with high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Seventeen patients (mean age 44±6.8 years) with HAPH and mild to moderate systemic arterial hypertension were included in the study. All patients underwent right heart catheterization with measurem...

Reduction of atrial natriuretic factor circulating levels by endogenous sympathetic activation in hypertensive patients.

The effects of endogenous activation of sympathetic nervous system on systemic and regional hemodynamics and on plasma levels of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) were studied in subjects with essential hypertension. Stimulation of sympathetic nervous system was reflex-induced by a selective deactivation of carotid baroreceptors obtained by increasing external neck-tissue pressure (NTP) by means ...

Vagal chemoreflex coronary vasodilation evoked by stimulating pulmonary C-fibers in dogs.

We performed experiments on anesthetized, open-chest dogs to determine whether the pulmonary chemoreflex (bradycardia and systemic hypotension) evoked by stimulating pulmonary C-fibers also involves reflex changes in coronary vascular resistance. We perfused the circumflex coronary artery at constant pressure (usually 100 mm Hg) and recorded mean circumflex blood flow. Stimulation of pulmonary ...

Reflex changes in hindlimb and renal vascular resistance in response to distention of the isolated pulmonary arteries of the dog.

We describe a preparation that uses a constant flow, right heart bypass for perfusion of an isolated pouch of the main pulmonary arteries at controlled pressures, and show that increments in pressure in the pulmonary arterial pouch are accompanied by increases in systemic vascular resistance and in hindlimb vascular resistance. These changes are demonstrated over the whole range of 5-120 cm H2O...
